Ospreys arrive in the UK for the 2025 breeding season

Osprey Arrival in the UK

Ospreys have arrived in the UK for the breeding season, marking an important time for these magnificent birds. They can be found nesting in several key locations across the country, including:

• throughout Scotland

• Poole Harbour in Dorset

• Rutland Water in Leicestershire

• Kielder Forest in Northumberland

• The Lake District in Cumbria

• various areas in Wales

These areas provide suitable habitats for ospreys to breed and raise their young during the summer months.

Several sightings of Ospreys have been recorded on Devon's estuaries and reservoirs already, so keep your eyes to the sky as you may witness them as they make their way to their breeding grounds. As we move into May, we hope to start seeing birds that may well be prospecting for a new territory, and will hopefully stay around inspecting the platforms erected by the Devon Osprey Partnership.
